Once you point your URL to your new website, let me know. I'd love to take a look and show everyone what you did. That's exactly what I hoped people would do.

Basically... for about $5, you can buy any domain name that you want (e.g. worldsgreatestartist.com) and then point that domain to your new FAA website (e.g. elizabeth-edwards.artistwebsites.com).

Once you do that, you can send people to http://worldsgreatestartist.com... and they'll see your new website.

With these new websites, I'm trying to solve all of the problems that make it difficult for artists to sell online.

Most artists do not have their own websites... or if you do, you face the following problems:

1. It can be very difficult to sell prints via your own site... not anymore.
2. It can be very time consuming trying to optimize your website for high rankings in Google... not anymore.
3. When you post new artwork on your website, the only people who know about it are the 10 - 20 people who visit your site each day. Not anymore... now the entire FAA community and our 3+ million monthly visitors will know about it.
4. It can be very difficult to display your artwork in various configurations (i.e. different frames, stretched canvases, greeting cards, etc.)... not anymore.
5. It can be very difficult to design an internal search engine that finds your artwork quickly and easily... not anymore.

In order to be successful online, you need a website that's very user-friendly, visually-appealing, and makes it easy for visitors to make a purchase. That's exactly what these new websites are designed to do.

It's not super customizable just yet. For example, you can't change the background color... etc.

All of that will change in the coming weeks. You'll be able to change the background color... change the color of the navigation bar... re-position things on the homepage... etc.

It's just going to take a little time for me to add those features. I wanted to get the websites out there for everyone to play with... and then add new features later.

Just one thing I noticed off the bat... Formatting (eg. line breaks) that I have in my bio on my FAA page don't appear on my website (paragraphs run together). I also have some HTML in my FAA bio (links to my website, facebook, etc.) that gets ignored on the website bio. I tried changing my bio via the artistwebsite site... It changed the FAA bio but did nothing on the website bio.

Overall, I really love this new feature. Keep up the great work!

You can now add google analytics to your store by pasting the code in your bio. It seems to be working, I'll know for certain tomorrow.

If I am on my own personal profile page here at FAA and I poke the website link on that page, should this not take me directly to this new featured website? O.K. I have figured it out, sorry for having disturbed you.....for those who have not figured it out, you must go back to your profile page, under contact information, and enter the address in the website link box..... (that is all in layman's terms).

Brian - all I needed analytics for was the front page anyway, to see if my bounce rate is coming from people going straight to my gallery.

This is shaping up to be exactly what I needed. But since its brand new I thought now would be the best time to mention two things I noticed that are so small they may get over looked.

Some of our sites link to this, should there be a button that goes back?

Also, some of us already have a blog and/or a button on our page to go to our blog. Any way to link this button to our one blog?

Again I'm not knitpicking at all, this is awesome, and if I knew how to send this in a private email I would have.

Warren, when a person goes to your FAA page, there's a whole bunch of links -- especially at the top of the page -- to lure said person elsewhere. The new, artistwebsite page only has links to your work and information. It's all devoted to you.

Wow, I've been working all day on my new website that will allow credit card purchases of my art and then this...blows me away.

Thanks Brian. I'm convinced now I did the right thing to resign another website that can come close and yet charged a hefty price.

I'll connect to this new site for the prints and cards and hook back for the sale of originals.

Anne it is a brand new site., Google doesn't go to sites every two minutes so it may take a while (24-48 hours) for it to collect the information off the new site.

I've been playing around with all the features on these new sites. It's incredible. Your viewers can now see what your art will look like as a canvas, poster, greeting card. All art has a border. The features are endless.

Then, play around with your Tags. I will need to change a few, but the Tags bring up different art when you're in canvas, or poster or greeting cards. "Red" will bring up any art in red, for example, if you've Tagged it that way. So now I will need to add Tags pertaining to colors of each piece, etc. The possibilities are limitless.

Now we need to get people to our new sites. The sites offer so many new advantages for capturing a viewer's interest and their sale.

I came across it today, I like it, it looks great so It is up and running from my own website, all a customer needs do is go to the button that says Giclee prints, it scrolls down and you click the Fine art prints and the new FAA website opens. I set the link to target _blank so it opens a new page in the browser without losing my own site which now stays open as well. Thanks Brian, its very good.

Concerning the galleries. Before we can create a new gallery we have to make a description for that gallery. But the text doesn't show up. Is there a way to have it with our galleries?

If anyone uses the FAA widgets on their webpages anywhere don't forget to change the code in those too. Its easy to do, just look in the html code and you'll see your old URL in there somewhere. Change the fineartamerica to artistwebsites and it should work.

Mary, nothing easier than this.
Go to your controlpanel and > Behind the scene.
Then click on > Website Header (under "General")
Now you can choose between several presets Brian provided or to create and upload your own header image. And you can also change the text, the font, the size and the color of the header text.

I'm often limited in time during the day and if there's a choice between uploading to facebook and uploading to faa, facebook it is.

But if an faa upload also means a facebook upload, i'd upload exclusively to faa.

You should never upload images into your FB photo album.

I am assuming you have them so they can be seen by all.

If you have any photos on FB that can be seen by Everyone (see your privacy settings for that album) then FB can take and use your images for their own purposes and you have no say as you are allowing it.

If you make the images for friends or family only then they cannot, but neither can your images be seen by everyone so no point in doing it.

Always only use the FAA and FB link. That way there is nothing on FB for people to steal and FB cannot use your images but everyone gets linked back here to purchase.

The great thing about the FAA images being 3D on FB is they show up as artistic and people do click through more than normal. They are also unstealable.

Beth I've uploaded my works (only a few) to FB BUT with a FAT copyright signature. Maximum of my images there: 500 pixels on the longer side AND I provide with each a link back to FAA for purchase. I think it is a great advertising to add these pictures to several groups at FB especially to groups for interior decorators ;)

In the past i have linked images on my personal website to images on the FAA custom shopping cart. Now that this new discrete website feature is on board, i'd rather link to the images as represented there, as i think purchase options are better presented than on the shopping cart. This will involve a lot of tedious work. Any suggestions?

Great Karin :) However I wont do it as FB themselves say they will and can use any images in the public domain (ie privacy option Everyone) and the description will not be there then.

They have already uses two of my images in advertising for groups, so I deleted the images.

Rich you need to log into your new web site first so u can have acccess to ur control panel, there u just click on Web site Header Icon, and change the size of text and color and the background of your header .That`s all u can change.

Susanne, you have to sign in first and on your profile page go to artwork and you'll see "Edit Print Prices"

Again, Brian, Awesome stuff! One nit, the sort order in artwebsites galleries seems to be in reverse from the sort order in faa galleries. Would be nice to have them in sync since most people tend to organize images in their faa galleries with their best first which means with the reverse in artwebsites galleries, the best is shown last.

The global set prices in not on the new websites yet. you have to use the FAA site. Changes do appear on new site . I had a problem but it was me. The global price change takes a long time when you have as many works up as I do. If you exit the price change before it is finished some of you older images may not see the change. What I want to see is a way to sort the order of images by name date etc. on the home page and in the gallery's

it is there Susanne, when you log into your web site, look under Administrator, you`ll see "Edit artwork" click on it and change the price and click submitt.

here the steps:
Log in
Go to Artwork Icon click on it,
you`ll have all your artwork gallery ,now choose one of artwork click on it , you`ll get a page for just that artwork.
you`ll see a button displayed on the top of your artwork, it says :edit artwork" click on it, change ur prices, click submitt button, down in the buttom.hope it helps.

Ahmed is right if you want to do it one image at a time. If you want to do it for all your images at once you must use the FAA site.

ok..this is pretty cool..except! i just made biz cards with the faa url. ....so basicaly we have 2 sites here...right? if we edit one, it edits the other...the main diff is we get our own banner!! which is cool...however, the shopping cart on my biz site still has the old faa banner...which isnt really a big deal........ok! thank you for this new site! ...i made me a new banner ...if you care to look.....thanks...susan

I have another question/suggestion: It would be maybe very helpful, if we could just "drag and drop" (inside of a gallery) the pictures to the spot/place where we want to have it - and not to use that "position + numbre 0-xxx". If you have more than 100 photos in one gallery it's very confusing to use that numbered tool...

Marlene - if you want great business cards I suggest going to www.GotPrint.com. You can get full color business cards at really low prices, the last time I got 100 cards I paid $25 - no kidding. It may be slightly higher, but not much. They have really good templates if you need them. This is a great site, the company I work for has also ordered stuff from them - so I can say they are highly recommended.

Also - the new feature is simply fantastic. I am now considering removing my website permanently.

Laura, now that I have analytics in front of me on the laptop I'll walk you through it, but first, don't forget what Brian said, this is only going to work on the page where your bio is for now. He's adding more later.

First go to Google Analytics and sign up for a new account.

Second click create new website profile or create new profile

Third check the circle that says add a profile for a new domain and enter your url in the line below and under that click enter

Fourth a new page will pop up and on the page will be a box with an html code, copy that code and paste it into your bio on your
artistwebsites.com page, not your FAA page. It will be invisible so don't worry about it looking odd.

Fifth save your bio and refreash the page, go back to the analytics page you got the code from (it's easiest to use two seperate tabs or windows
in your browser) click save and finish at the bottom of the page.

Sixth now you wait. It could take 24 to 48 hours to get any information from your page and it only updates once a day. I'm not sure what time but always while you sleep. Google knows when we sleep. (jk) hope it works for you all.

I still don't have any info from mine, maybe tomorrow again.

Specificly analytics can tell you a LOT. It can tell you how many visitors to that page, how many of those visitors are first time visitors, what web page they came from or if they used a search engine, where in the world they came from all the way down to the city and much more but, I don't think we should talk about it in this thread. This is Brians thread and they're using it to help people get started with their new sites so If you need more info shoot me an email or something :)

If I want to upload work to my my "new" web site and have it automatically appear on my FB FAN page with a link back to my NEW web site I assume I have to make some changes in the RSS Grafitti feed settings on FB?????

Also, if you want a higher standing in the search engines, the best thing to do is to create new pages everyday. I kn ow, easier said than done - but I know larger sites who pay companies zillions of dollars just to do that on their website everyday!! While it's not costly for anyone to do this on their own, it is extremely time consuming.

V - Actually I have the same question - I had just started my website and was linking through to the custom shop - that is still intact. I can't find it here through FAA though, lol - I've forgotten where I went to customize it. *needs more coffee*

Can someone please help. Here is the problem. If I put www.rich-miloartistwebsites.com into my internet address bar and then click, it will bring up my web page. Once I am there if I click on an image it will enlarge it. Now once there if I click on one of the "buy" images let's say "poster art prints $18.00" it will take me to the new page where you can order the different sizes. When I click on a different size other then what it already shown it does not change the price. Can someone tell me if the problem is on my end or is it doing the same thing for you.

I did that Ahmed. The problem is not getting to the site it does that. Read my post again.

Dave I believe that it should still doo that. Everthing you upload goes to both sites.

Yes Dave. When I log in it works but if I am just acting as a person putting the address in their internet address bar it does not change sizes for them.

Rich, it does not do that for me, i tried to clcik and click Buy and i selected another size and the price did change for me. i think you`ll need to contact the FAA support. because when you choose another size the price should change automatically.

and as David said, you need to log first into your website

i tried it without logging and the price changed though, so i think something is wrong with the website, FAA support will help for sure.

Your site is working fine, as far as I can tell. I've tried it on three different computers and with all major browsers.

As Ahmed points out, it's working fine for him, as well.

Please try accessing your site from a different computer and let me know what happens.

Yes - it works absolutely fine when logged out. The code that powers your website is the same code that powers everyone's websites.

Rich there is a problem with your site as you say. It works sometimes but most times it just sits there when you change size and says calculating......

URL is a web address like http://Scott-Hovind.artistwebsites.com is an URL.

Anne, The URL is the http or WWW address in your browser. People will find your website the same way the find your FAA page. You should make it available to people through Facebook or a blog etc. Your FAA page is linked to FINEARTAMERICA, the new site is a stand alone site.

The problem I was having yesterday was, when I looked at the first print on canvas on my page it would show me my discounted price without my mark up but when I changed sizes it wouldn't give me the discounted price anymore. So I returned back the the first size again no discount. I haven't been able to look again today because I'm still at work on my blackberry

Lyle--to get the customizing features of your new site lyle-huisken.artistwebsites.com you click onto the site and then you must log onto the site...once you are "in" the top of the administrative things will allow the custom changes....bear in mind the two sites are interlaced---if you change the mugshot, for instance on one, it changes it on both...I have not monkeyed with much.

Maybe Beth can give you some specific tips.

I like the exclusive nature of the site; not that I want to keep my customers to my self. lol. I'm going to watch this for a few days, then probably have my site links changed. After banging my head around in the new site a few times, I seem to have gotten the knack of it, and I've also learned a few more things about using fineartamerica because of it. My only hope would be for a little more leaway in the height of the header. Maybe to be given a choice of height size...within reason of course.

Other than that...I like what it offers. As other artists have done; I thank you too.

I am very excited about this feature and am tempted to dump my regular website and point my regular domain name (http://www.powersfineart.com/) to this new page. As it is, when I am finished with a painting it takes nearly an hour for me to create all my marketing pages on my main site to promote it. I then have to update my blog, news, and facebook pages to reflect the new artwork. Now, with one fell swoop I can cover all my bases. Very, very well done Brian. I thought I would test this new feature by pointing one of my domain names to the new site. It seems to be working. Go Daddy is where I have my names registered and they offer domain name forwarding with masking. The masking simply puts the pete-hellmann.artistwebsites.com content in a frame so that visitors continue to see PeteHellmann.com in the address bar. I was wondering if you could tell me how this might effect page ranking in search engines? In other words, would it be better to forward without masking for search engine optimization?

Adam Romanowicz found a very interesting post on masking and no, its not a good idea. Google thinks that the masked domain is another site as WELL as the first one with duplicate content and so I have just taken off the masking on mine and only forward it.

That's what I thought. My main site isn't ranked extremely high, but I would not want to lose the little bit of ranking I have. The real big deal is that my main site is publicized on PR material and clients are familiar with it. I'll have to think about how to move to this site with the least impact on established branding. I was planning on a complete redesign of my site this summer anyway and it's great to have this new option.

You CAN change the background. It's real simple. Go to where it says "Save Website header", select option #2 "Upload your own image", and then upload the selected photo and/or painting that will appear as background at the top of the page behind your name. I tried it and it works, but I tend to prefer the default background. ~ Alice Terrill

Beth, I have changed the link as you say, just as printed/typed out, but I continue to get the same direction to Google, only now Google directs me to this discussion.
I was able to bookmark the new link while on the page, and can get to the new looking page through that, but it's still not working on my websites. The correct link on my websites won't allow me to click on it, so I try cut and paste, and that will not work either. I have checked for bugs, and have contacted my virus protections for help, but they see no issues on my computer. It has to be some kind of glitch in the system transfer? I don't know what, I just know the suggestions I have tried over and over are not doing the job.

Also, clean out your cache on your computer.

Copy what I put next onto notepad Before pasting on your site. Then copy from your notepad and place on the site. This will stop any code being stripped from it in the transfer and also so you can have a look to see what you have copied.

there is another possibility with Janet's problem. I'm not familiar with the place that Janet goes through for her free site but if it uses modules like blogger does, maybe she is trying to use the wrong module for what she is trying to do. Or like when I post html as a blig I have to click the html tab, enter the code then click back to text to finish my blog post. Just some possibilities.

Working with Norton to allow my links to work in blog, since I use Modzilla with Firefox Norton wouldn't allow my changes. It worked fine until I renewed the subscription recently.
I do have my gallery sight all set up. It is very easy to use the features, Really had fun with it.

So here I am!

I finally closed Norton down, it got in the way and was a complete entity in itself, and a monolith. I now have Paretologic everything, simple prrotection, permissions, scans, life's a breeze compared to Norton. If I get a new computer, big IF, I'll remove Norton if it's installed. Just BTW.

Can someone, anyone(!) help me with this customizing. I've been able to change my header & colours of the header. BUT, how does one change the format of the actual artwork, i.e. changing from, say, framed prints or canvas or cards??? Where is the "button" and or prompt to do this??
I'm sorry to say FAA does a fine job creating fabulous new ideas but does a very poor job in helping members with specific details (i.e. instructions) on how to achieve the results as advertised. Sorry.

well there are no instructions as that's up to the customer to do. You can change the position or can make a gallery and show that as your front page but that's it. Same as here.

That's not quite what I mean. I'm talking about the actual presentation layout of the individual images. Brian talks about being able to customize your artwork to presnet them as framed prints, canvas or greeting cards. Fine. How do you do that?

In the post above he says Visitors to your website can purchase prints of your artwork with custom framing and matting (just like they do on FAA)... without ever leaving your site!

This is what I mean: If you go to Brain McDunn's first posting on this topic on 3/16/2010, you'll see he lists four sites as examples of this new website feature. Each of those examples has a different presentation, from framed prints or canvas or greeting cards. Clearly these members were able to make different presentations of their work. I plan on keeping my own website AND refer the sales to FAA. I feel like I have more control over content on my own site and can display things as I wish. On your own site, you can also refer customers to other locations you have your artwork, if FAA isn't your only site.

As of right now you have to have a domain carrier of some sort to house your domain name and then refer it to here at FAA, from what I understand.

' it is under General section .choose the header image you want from the list or upload one if you have. choose the font color. that`s all you can do is to customize your header website right now, other features maybe added later maybe.

Hi Brook, you need to upload your artwork first, once you upload an artwork scroll down put the prices you want for the prints and postcards prints too. click submit down at the buttom of the page.there you go best luck, make sure your artwork photos arenot blurry and fits the FAA criteria.

login, go to "Behind scene" tab, under" Public profile" section, click on "Artwork", upload your artwork and place the prices you want, click submit.

Your artwork is already loaded,all you need to do is go to each artwork and click EDIT, it is right under your arwork photo, then place yur prices.Good luck.

Hi Brian,

When setting up an e-mail campaign with my new personal web site I noticed that this features redirects people back to doug-gibbons.fineartamerica.com instead of doug.gibbons.artistwebsites.com. Can this be changed to my new site?

This is a great addition in that we can now offer the originals for sale too. Just wondering how I cutomize though- not sure how to get into that area...Thanks! LB Zaftig

Thank you, Brian! I'm going to start working on transitioning from my old web-site, (via my ISP) which is pretty much invisible, to this great new tool you've provided for us. This looks exciting and like a means to much more visibility, and hopefully sales! Thanks, again!!!

I finally created the website and found it very simple to use. I was able to customize the header (used image of one of my paintings). i also asked my husband to help me forward the domain www.swetaprasad.com to faa and it works like a charm. He told me that the IP forwarding was very easy thing to do. Thanks Brian for making this happen so easy - i feel good! I had never created a web page before....

hi Brian i would also like to have my own domain.I already have my own personal domain .www.anastasisart.com. Can i also forward this domain to FAA ,just like the lady Sweta prasad above did,,.Thanks in advance for any help,yours grateful anastasis

You already have your new site here and yes, you can forward your domain name to it. You need to do that in the place you bought the domain. Log in there and find Forwarding.

I object to "power of the FAA search engine" because I find it very primitive. It brings up way too much to sift through to try and find what you are looking for because it brings everything with even one word in the tags instead of being more selective like the Google. If you use a Google search it will put the most relevant sites at the top of the list and on the first page and those with less relevance further down and on farther pages. Am I missing something here? If there is something I am doing wrong then let me know. I cannot find my own photograph that I uploaded yesterday and my name does not come up in the list of artists even when I search the same tags I put in.

Andy you don't have a headshot, or any art, so you would be hard pressed to find it anywhere.

I guess this is the place for FAA personal web sites feature requests?
[Or is there an official "Group" for that?]

Anyway, here are my feature requests to date:

1 - I think a "sandbox" to keep the public out while one plays around with site changes would be good.

2 - Ability to setup a CSS style sheet for the page. I know the cloud-based shopping cart service I use for my web clients has form fields where you can enter CSS for various blocks on a page - a bit like templates.

3 - A nice set of social bookmarking buttons to choose your favorites and install them from - similar to the way that works for WordPress plugins (that is you check off the social bookmarks you like and use from a selection of maybe 25 or 50 of the top ones, then those get installed in a horizontal array/block on the web page as clickable links. A nice effect for the user is to have them slightly ghosted until you mouse-over them to select the one to send to.

4 - A block in which to install scripts for traffic metrics and the like. For example, Google PPC tracking, etc. I know FAA provides a lot of metrics, but I think it important to be able to integrate our art sites with the available major marketing tools.

5 - Speaking of online marketing, how about access to the page's title, so we can insert our own keywords?

You need to particiapte in the POD. go to the Pint on demand Tab, and follow the steps to register your payment.then you`ll have access to edit your artwork prices to be ready for prints.best luck.
